This volume is a continuation of Deconnick's run on Captain Marvel. If you have enjoyed her work on the series so far, you'll enjoy this volume as well; for me, it ranks as slightly better than Vol. 2, but not quite as good as Vol. 1. If you haven't read Vol. 1 or 2 yet, Vol. 3 is NOT a good starting place, and I recommend you purchase the other two first.The issues included are #12-15. #12-13 wrap up the storyline from the previous volume in a satisfying way, although I would have liked to see Rocket return, if only briefly. Issue #14 is a part of a larger 'Black Vortex' event and although it *can* stand on its own somewhat, is more confusing than it ought to be and really should just be included in a TPB for that event, rather than included here. Issue #15 sees Carol Danvers return from deep space to Earth in a rather emotional spiritual end to Deconnick's multi-year run on Captain Marvel (although Deconnick also wrote the' Captain Marvel & The Carol Corps' Secret Wars tie-in, it seems this is the true end to her time with the character).As always, Deconnick's writing is witty and enjoyable. The art, especially the colours, complement the feel of the book - bright, exciting and fun. Although neither Deconnick nor Lopez are groundbreaking, Captain Marvel remains one of the most fun books around.
This trade is one that doesn’t look feel like an actual story as it collects only four issues.Issues 12 and 13 are an okay two parter involving Carol’s cat (who has been revealed to be a powerful alien.) Following that, Issue 14 is actually a tie-in to a much-larger comic event that as a standalone really doesn’t offer much. It’s part 11 in a much larger story. Issue 15 sees Carol saying goodbye to an old friend who has actually been dying since the start of the previous series. She doesn’t get to say goodbye to her as her deep space adventures kept her away from Earth. It’s a touching story and probably the highlight of the book.Still, the book itself is weak. Comic book companies shouldn’t include tie-ins to events in trades not related to the event because it really left me feeling lost. Probably the weakest Captain Marvel since the first volume of the previous series.
This volume doesn't really add much, but is good to see how this story ends. The first two issues wrap up the tale of the first volume, the third is a story concerning a black mirror, and the last is a fitting ending and goodbye to the volume. I did enjoy the art, but the story doesn't add TOO much to give it give stars.
This is a bit of her conclusion in space and a tie in to the Black Vortex storyline. Carol Danvers is a well written character who we can all identify with, totally reading more.
I am a Marvel fan, and I was looking for a good femail hero.I think captain Marvel is the best Marvel femel hero, and this searies is a great read.
Loved the stories. Kelly Sue did an awesome job, and ended with a memorable "farewell", even if it was a bit sad- it had a good ending. Art was on point.
Does not measure up to the previous two books in the series (which are both awesome). The first few issues collected here tie up some plot threads from earlier, but in a story that's fairly silly, and which stretches the fantastical sci-fi elements past the breaking point. The next issue ties into a totally unrelated storyline (running through a different series?); it's jarring, and not particularly great.Even David Lopez's excellent artwork is marred by the addition of a "Color Artist," whose dark tones don't seem appropriate to Lopez's style.
Kelly Sue Deconnick can do no wrong. Check out her Pretty Deadly title for some great western magical realism!
