I have never hated a man as much as I hated Kai...He was a jerk face right from the get go, sighhhhhhh. A hot as balls jerk face who cared for his family the best way he knew how. He insufferable, hot and sexy. It made me so mad that I wanted him to get Riley to love him. I wanted him to be normal and not have to have the weight of the world on his shoulders, I wanted him to be able to take Riley on dates, and not command her to things or trick her into it. Sighhhh just thinking about the way her "handled" her makes me furious, but it also makes me swoon so fing hard. Like I am at a real battle with my heart here people...lol.I love this story for many reasons, it has heart, it has family, it has love, it has a man who will stop at nothing to protect his loved ones. It has drama and suspense. Ohhhhh and it also has HOT, passionate, dirty sex!!!!! I’m of two minds about Bennett Mafia. I absolutely loved the mafia story, the ins, and outs, the secrets, the betrayals; all of the things I come to expect from these kinds of books. However, as much as I enjoyed Riley and Kai together, I would have liked to see more development of their relationship. I did believe in them, but I felt like the romance was lacking a little.Riley was a fierce female. She had a fractious beginning, but took those scars from her past and used them to hone herself into a force for a good while operating in the shadows. I think what I appreciate most about Riley was that she had an acute sense of right and wrong, but was still able to see past the action to the person and their motivations. It may have taken her some time, but she was able to see that things weren’t always black and white, and often things appeared one way from the outside but were completely different from the inside. She was a powerhouse, and as much as Kai needed someone as strong as she was to complement him, she needed someone as powerful him to stand up to her.Kai continually surprised me. The brush with which he had been painted in the beginning didn’t reveal his authentic self. As his true personality and the real motivations behind his actions came to light it was apparent he was much more complex than I’d originally expected. The complexity of Kai’s situation was heartbreaking, and as much as I didn’t want to feel any sympathy for the ruthless mob boss, I just wanted to nurture and protect that little boy who’d never experienced the love he should have and had to step into such a perilous role as little more than a child.Kai and Riley were fantastic together; they were both headstrong and independent in ways that shouldn’t have been compatible but ended up being extremely complementary. I could feel the chemistry between them and felt a sense of relief when they finally acted on it. I would have loved to have seen the emotional part of their relationship more fully fleshed out, in lieu of some of the excessive sex scenes. I did find myself skimming through those sections, as the felt gratuitous and repetitive to me.
I am soo obsessed with Tijan's words it isn't even funny. This story was so sexy and addicting and the world that Tijan created in Bennett Mafia was just mindblowing! I am so consumed with Kai and Riley and their connection. They were intense, sexy and so addicting. I could not get enough!Without giving away any spoilers, Kai Bennett was sinfully delicious. The head of the Bennett family has always known about his little sister's bestfriend, Riley Bello. But when he suddenly kidnaps her to get what he needs, Riley has no idea what this dangerous and ruthless mafia boss has coming for her!Gahhh!! This man is amazinggggg! He gave me Carter Reed feels. His connection to Riley was so intense and honestly I was hooked from the start. This story had suspense, tension, angst and was absolutely incredible. I loved the connection that Kai and Riley had and the countless shockers we found out along the way. I am officially addicted to another Tijan book and can't wait for more from this author! Bravo! 5 stars! ~RatulaÂ
I have read and loved other Tijan books, among them Carter Reed – but this, this is a whole new level. It was action packed from the very first pages, an emotional and exciting story that really kept me turning the pages as fast as I could. It’s very well written and the twists and turns were unreal – so many secrets!Kai and Riley were so different from one another, and the line is firmly drawn between black and white, right and wrong. But as the story progress the gap between them becomes smaller, and not everything is as it seems at first glance. Kai is the head of the Bennett Mafia, and is a cunning and ruthless leader. Riley was a very strong female character and at the opposite spectrum – his equal in many ways. The chemistry between the two were combustible and I really enjoyed that it was a bit slow burn and not insta-love.This was nearly a 5 star read for me. I wished I felt more of the emotional connection as I read the book, and I kinda felt that a few minor things weren't explained or properly resolved. I'm also the kind of reader that enjoys stories told in dual POV`s. I feel that that often adds to the story, and I would have loved it if a small part of this story was told from Kai`s POV.I really enjoyed reading this book, and it kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through. I`m hoping that we get more books in the Bennett universe, and that we get more of Kai and Riley. I would recommend this book to everyone and it`s a must-read if you are a fan of Tijan or mafia books in general.
