....from the very first sentence in the Introduction, the writing of Adam Hochschild will grip you. Each of the essays covers important events that have taken place during the lifetime of the author. Most of the events he writes about are significant, events when life changed for many of us, mostly for the better, but also in some cases, it changed for the worse. Without giving away too much, I will say this that this book is one of the best I have read. The author starts with the election of Donald J Trump, and calls it one of the dark moments in our history. He then goes into historically significant events that have taken place in Europe, Asia, Africa, India and America, with an essay for each of such events. Without doubt, a must read book, which I am sure I will be reading over again, and gifting it to friends.
