*Review might contain some spoilers*I was so looking forward to the second instalment of Anna Hackett’s Eon Warrior series and I really wanted to like it more, but it took me days to plow my way thru it.One of my main problems was the sheer repetetiveness of it: all Lara and Caze seem to be doing is fight Kantos, get hurt, flee to a Eon healing station, get turned on by each others fighting prowess and mate like rabbits, rinse and repeat this cycle several times. Only each time they are fighting bugs there seem to be more and more of them, and not only in number, but also in kind: there are elites, there are grunts, there are slimy bugs, there are flying bugs, there are flesh-eating bugs (that hatch from eggs like a scene from Aliens) and there are giant spiders that completely cover you in their threads until you are mummified like poor Frodo. Then there are the ever-expanding features of the helian, the symbiont Eon warriors are bonded with in their puberty: I can totally get behind the idea that a symbiont (parasite) protects and even heals its host, after all it’s dependent on the host for its survival. But not only can the symbiont be formed into armor and swords, no, it also takes the shape of blasters and ropes and even throwing stars (which begs the question how it deals with the loss of mass). It can also be commanded by the host’s mate and not only can it shape itself into a helmet, no, it also turns carbon dioxide into oxygen. But where it really lost me was how it continued to protect the mate of the host even after they were physically separated. I think what bothered me most was how the symbiont was used like a deus-ex-machina device: each time the hero/heroine got into a seemingly hopeless situation the symbiont developed/revealed some new ability which then saved them, which seems like a weak plot strategy.Number three: very poor decision making displayed by heroine, hero and everybody else. First who thinks it’s a good idea to steal from and blackmail somebody whose help you are trying to gain? But okay, let’s say we let this pass as this is actually how earth governments often behave: they try to gain some leverage to force the other side into compliance… I also get that Lara agrees to her mission in order to exonerate her sister, Eve, but what I absolutely don’t get is how she goes on believing her government after what the Space Corps did to her sister and after being presented evidence that her government has been lying to her. She chooses to disregard facts and just goes blindly on believing what she believes. If this sounds eerily familiar (like supporters of certain leader figures) then because it is and I have no patience with this kind of willful ignorance. The other example has to do with the stolen gems. So let’s say your enemy has stolen three items from you that have the potential to be weaponized against you. You manage - more by dumb luck than actual skill – to recover two of the items. But instead of waiting to rendezvous with the rest of your force to secure the two recovered items, you carry them with you when you make a very dangerous attempt to get the third one and your commander goes along with the plan, thus risking losing again the two that you have already recovered. How does this make any strategic sense? All these things kept bothering me, so I was unable to enjoy or indeed appreciate the romance between Lara and Caze. Overall sadly rather disappointing, so 3 stars from me.

Anna Hackett's Eon Warriors series is full of creative, action-packed enjoyment. I have read Books 1 and 2, and can't wait for the third to go on sale in March. The Traynor sisters have been blackmailed and guilt tripped into the unenviable position of trying to save Earth by getting the attention of the powerful Eon Empire for help. Thirty years ago, the Eon king decided that Terrans were not a species worth working with due to their petty in-fighting and disorganization. He forbade any contact with the planet. Now Earth faces annihilation by the Kantos, an insectoid species bent on ruling the universe and destroying all other life forms.Space Corps, in charge of defending Earth, comes up with 3 asinine plans for obtaining help from Eon. The middle sister, Eve, must kidnap the greatest Eon war commander, the eldest, Lara, is sent to steal 3 precious gems sacred to the civilization, and Wren, the youngest, must take over one of the largest Eon military space cruisers and rendezvous with an Earth vessel. Since these are romance novels, of course the Terran sisters and their respective Eon main adversaries fall in love. However, getting to that requires that each couple put aside their differences to battle a common enemy, the Kantos.Touch of Eon is the story of Lara Traynor stealing the Eon sacred stones while pursued by Caze Vann-Jad, the warrior assigned to hunt her down and recover the jewels. Arrogant Caze is surprised and grudgingly impressed by the little Terran female. He has no intention of harming her since her sister has begged him to keep her safe. You must read the first book to understand how Caze knows Eve.Just as Caze captures Lara, they are attacked and eventually captured by Kantos forces and go through several harrowing and creepy experiences and adventures on the way to falling in love. The author is very good at ratcheting up the tension and keeping the reader in suspense. The technology she invented that is used by the various groups is fascinating and immensely creative. The characters are interesting and likable. I trust that the final book in the series will be just as enthralling as the previous 2, making the novels a must read for those who love adventure romances.
