About the Author
Ann Fields began her writing career in 1996 with the publication of her first romance novel, "After Hours." This story has all the elements of a clever horror tale, with excellent writing and original ideas. However, I never felt a strong interest in any of the characters. Mattie, the strongest character, isn't worth investing in when we learn on page one that she's fated to die soon. Deborah gets the next most page time, but she's a back-and-forth person who can't hold my loyalty. So it goes for the rest of the story, and the ending was really no ending at all. The final action scene was the best in the book, which could have used more of such. Though I don't read much of this genre, it seems to need more frequent explicit horror scenes with a little less inner exposition. The curse's origin needed an earlier explanation for me, as well. It took me a long time to finish this because it never grabbed and held me, but I enjoyed the look into this different world.
Fuller's Curse is a riveting story of the world of the unseen. Ann has a writing style that uses logical sequence and great imagery. I had no problem seeing the story line as if I were watching it as a movie. I recommend this book.

By then, it may be too late.Well written and filled with memorable characters, Fuller’s Curse is a fantastic read. Author Ann Fields has spun a deep and thoughtful tale, and I definitely look forward to future books from this talented author.
I love a good scare, and Fuller's Curse by Ann Fields provides that and more. Peeking into the lives of the Fullers from freed slave to today also felt at times voyeuristic. Ms. Fields made us care about the friendship and trust of two old friends, Deborah and Ester. We watched teacher and student, Mattie and Governor, work to save their family and preserve its secrets. We felt the pain of betrayal and disbelief, the horror of truth and loss. And all the while a cast of lively and spirited characters traveled the path with us. Self-published with a sequel on the way, I look forward to Tremont's Curse and learning what BlackHeart has in store for this unfortunate family.

You know them...we all got 'em. Well, educated ex-research scientist Deborah is too well educated to believe in curses and she sets out to prove her no-so-smart relatives wrong when theybegin whispering about a curse.You'll begin to rethink your own family.This book won't allow you to put it down until you get to the last period. Can't wait for the sequel.
Fuller's Curse reveals Ann Fields at her creative best. She chose north central Texas, as the local for her rendition of the battle between a demon of the ages and a cursed family. This yarn is classic good versus evil, and the reader keeps waiting for a moment to relax, but, alas, it never comes. There is a rule of thumb in the screen writing business. Always "save the rabbit." In this page turner, the rabbit dies.I give Fuller's Curse five stars.Earl Stubbs
I highly recommend Fuller's Curse. I really enjoyed this book. I was riveted from the first page to the last - could not put it down and felt like I was right there with the family..
Fuller's Curse is a tale well told involving strong, idiosyncratic characters engaged in an imaginative story staged in a small, somewhat isolated, rural community in Texas. An added plus is the writer's vivid depiction of people and place that ring true as the plot unfolds. Step-by-step the reader learns of a black family burdened by an unshakable curse promulgated back in civil war days and wreaking havoc upon them, generation after generation, ever since. There seems to be no way to thwart this deadly force until a brave woman scientist pits herself against it in an epic good-versus-evil struggle that is not resolved until the book's final pages.
