About the Author
Tony McAdams is an Emeritus Professor of Management at the University of Northern Iowa. He earned a BA in History from the University of Iowa, a JD from the University of Iowa, and an MBA from Columbia University. Professor McAdams' primary teaching interests include government regulations of business, business and society, and employment law. Professor McAdams' research interests include managerial accountability, business ethics, and employment law. His scholarly articles have appeared in such journals as The Harvard Business Review, The Academy of Management Review, The Journal of Business Ethics, and The American Business Law Journal. Professor McAdams received the Iowa Board of Regents Award for Faculty Excellence, the Distinguished Teaching of the Year Award from the student government at the University of Kentucky, and the University of Northern Iowa College of Business Administration Excellence in Teaching Award.

This book was required for one of my MBA courses. I'm one of those students who rarely reads the text and rather just skims the content. This book was different; the content was fascinating and I found that it read less like a text and more like a newspaper. The cases were also interesting.Note that the newest edition of this book was required for my class but I found this one to be sufficient. There's only one chapter number that differs between this and the current edition. Your teacher will likely give you the titles of the chapter just make a note of the discrepancies at the start of the semester and you'll be fine with this book. Plus buying an inexpensive used copy will save you big $$.
I rented this book via amazon for an MBA class and was initially worried I would be SUPER bored reading it.I was glad to have been proven wrong, the book contains so much good information concerning things any working professional would be interesting in learning. Differences between capitalism and collectivism, contracts, liability, your rights under the constitution, and most importantly how it all relates back to the workplace. Im an engineer but worked many of my college years as a waiter and reading some of the articles concerning liability, sexual harassment, and verbal contracts caused me several flashbacks of moments where I would of wished I had this book and was better informed of my rights.The text does not read like a novel, but if you are interested in a specific issue related to the work place its a very good read, and provides many case studies to keep you interested and learning.Liked it so much I almost wish I had brought it.... almost...
Content-wise, I'm just starting this book but I find it less dense than most textbooks. Some of the reviews here suggest that you can only read this e-textbook on your mobile device. Actually, this book can also be read on your PC but you must first download the Kindle for PC app. Make sure you have cleared your Windows Temp directory (%temp% in the Run command in Windows). For some reason, this book cannot be read using Kindle for Chrome and it appears when you try to sent to other devices that those devices are "grayed out." Not to worry. Once you download the Kindle for PC app and log into it, you can download this book. Then, if you return to Manage Your Content on Amazon.com, you'll see "Kindle for PC" as an available option (together with whatever mobile device you have).
I rented this book for class because it was a good price and I needed it. It came in terrible condition. The binding is not even together.
This text is far less dry than many legal texts I've seen. There are many exercises to chat about in class and while I find the textbook industry utterly detestable, this book is a good one. Whether or not it was worth what I paid is another conversation altogether.
