About the Author
About the Authors Mel H. Friedman, M.S. has a diversified background in mathematics and has developed test items for Educational Testing Service. His teaching experience is at both the high school and college levels. Rena Grasso, Ph.D. has taught Writing at all levels (first-year to graduate school) at various colleges and universities for more than twenty-five years. In addition, she is currently tutoring students (middle school through high school) as well as adults, including both native speakers and ESL professionals seeking to improve both work related writing and to pass the TOEFL exams. Dr. Grasso’s experience includes professional grant writing and a range of technical and business writing formats. She has also written essays and articles on history, the arts, and political topics as well as reports andpolicy studies on educational issues. Rena Grasso holds an M.A. in Language Studies from Boston University and a Ph.D. from SUNY/Buff alo in Literature and Psychoanalytic Psychology. Carol Hunter, M.A. is a former History and English teacher, staff developer, literacy resource teacher, and consultant in Albuquerque and San Diego City Schools. She also taught at The University of New Mexico, Chapman University, The College of Santa Fe, and Santa Fe Community College. She has an undergraduate degree in liberal arts, and an M.A. in History from The University of New Mexico. good for at home study guide

I am studying from this and have not taken a test-in order to get a certificate to work w/kids in the public school. If I pass? I will give it 5-stars.
This is a must have book if you want to pass the test. It has great quizes at the end of the book so you can test yourself on what you've already studied.
Well, like so many people I waited until a week and a half or so before the test to begin studying. So, of course my options for study aids were quite limited. I purchased this book since it was specifically for the ParaPro and had two practice tests. However, after taking the ParaPro, I think this test aid may be a little too specific for the topics actually covered on the test. My most difficult subject was without a doubt the writing skills section because the book paid particular attention to grammar, mechanics, and usage. The practice test questions covered everything from identifying the parts of speech, different types of clauses and phrases, how clauses and phrases function as a part of speech, different types of sentences, how they should be punctuated, and so on. I was so frustrated at week's end that I just knew this test was going to be really, really difficult. Imagine my surprise, when I did very little identifying of anything other than a part of speech on the test. The reading section was a little much for what is required as well, but the math review was perfect for the actual test. Also, there were lots of errors in the book. The second practice test was of little use to me because it contained so many errors of answers and explanations. There were lots of errors in some of the test prep as well. Thank God I was confident in what I already knew so that I could identify what was correct and what was not. Now, after all is said and done, I did extremely well on the test and scored perfectly. I guess you can say it was due in part to the in-depth review of each subject covered. If you do purchase this book, just be wary of the information I provided above.
This book is riddled with mistakes. Apparently 8-4=5 and 5/20=30%. Ugh. These two gems were back to back. 2010 edition.
I haven't studied in years! I felt very confident in purchasing this book,thinking it would help me pass the test and be able to continue to do the job I love. During a few tutoring lessons we found two mistakes in the math section. I was afraid to continue to use this book for fear I would be studing the wrong answer. I truly need to contact the right person for a refund. I have since received another book from which to study.
