My daughter(4y/o) and myself enjoyed this book. I originally got it b/c i felt an obligation as a parent to provide the proper growth and development for my childs identity. Many children may not have the so called "common name" and feel they are the only ones in their school that are 'different.' This confusion and doubt will only carry to throughout their adulthood. I wanted my child to read books that she could relate to, the fact that a cool cartoon character is wearing a head scarf makes her connect with this book more so then any other book we have read. She's learning to pronounce the names of these characters correctly by listening to me pronounce them as well as using their names in a sentence. The book is filled with small detail that keep you engaged and grateful that these small selection of books are available. Im looking forward to purchasing more books from this author. Regardless what type of book you buy, your money will be questioned on where it went and how it was used one day, so with good intention and a little patience your child can learn a lot from this book, not only is it uniquely entertaining, it makes you feel good as a parent. we all waste money on petty little things daily, this book is priced affordably but if you think buying books like 'spongeBob square pants' is better or more entertaining for your kid then your child is wasting precious time that could be used to develop what type of person he/she will become one day. I plan to purchase more books as gifts for some non-arab/non muslim friends, so their kids can understand how to pronounce and understand how children from other parts of the world act, and hopefully this can make the community a more understanding place for our kids to grow up in.
My niece and nephew (4 and 2) really enjoy this book. There is lots of new vocab for them in the book (from minaret to muaddhin to mihrab) as well as relatable sequence of events. The kids go to the masjid, do wudu, meet with friends before salah, pray in congregation and parents pray sunnah, and give sadaqah at the end before heading home. I liked how the Dad ran into a friend when they're about to leave...so relatable ;). Definitely a great book for every Muslim family.Also, the masjid layout in the book is like every other masjid in North America, so that was nice. After reading the book, I enjoyed pointing out the men's area from our balcony women's area in our local masjid as well as the mihrab and mimbar.
This is our second copy, bc my daughter absolutely *LOVES* this book.This is a great book to talk to kids about the etiquettes for going to the Masjid, a unique situation especially for minority children, who live in a predominantly pluralistic society. It helps to talk about what to expect when going there. Small things like, the men and women having respective areas, and how we separate but then we are together again afterwards eases the separation anxiety aspect. Also, it's cute bc kids always look for their family members, and it's beautifully illustrated here.

As a positive discipline instructor, its important to encourage good behavior not focus on the negative, unlike The pictures I added from the book.
Great book! The drawings are cute and it shows all the aspects of going to the masjid (taking off shoes, wudu, standing in rows) and even teaches words like minaret, mimbar, muazzin etc. I know some people don’t like the “negative aspects†(wrong to splash water during wudu, shouldnt run in front of others who are praying) but I really liked it because children should learn dos and donts. And even though the parents admonished the kids when they did something wrong, the book still depicts everyone having a great time. Must have for all muslim parents!
My son really likes this book. Just like what he experiences when he goes to the masjid! It's a good book for kids young and old. I was entertained. :) It taught the proper names for things and even etiquette and manners in a way that kids can learn what to do when they go too!
My kids (6 and 3) love the Hassan and Aneesa books. This is a great book to teach children the adab in the masjid.
My kids love reading this book. In addition to other things, the part where it talks about not wasting water really resonates with them. I would recommend this book to everyone.
